Surgery

My baby boy is going under the knife in a week. He's only 12 weeks old and already another hospital visit!
Not to be alarmed it is nothing too major. Last week at his two month checkup the doctor noticed what seemed to be a hernia in his scrotum. She recommended we see a pediatric surgeon for a consultation. From what I have read these are not extremely uncommon in infant boys. It seems when their testicles descend before birth. the opening sometimes does not close. The doctor told me it is usually not too serious in infants, but can cause problems later if not corrected. We decided to do the surgery as soon as possible to take advantage of having already met our deductible for the year. I know it is a fairly simple outpatient surgery lasting only 30 minutes, but the mommy part of me still doesn't like the thought of it. The surgeon told me most infants are feeling back to normal the next day. Please keep Micah in your prayers over the next week. While I know it is a simple surgery, it is still surgery and their is always a small chance for complications. It feels like these last few months have been a little trying for our whole family.

Did I mention Chris was rear ended yesterday? It was completely ironic because on the way to work we were discussing the fact that our insurance should be going down soon because we have not had any tickets or at fault accidents recently. Luckily Chris was definitely not at fault. The car is still drivable, but will have to go in the shop soon. I am just ready to get past all of this, and enjoy the holidays with my family.

Well that's my little update for the night. I need to get some sleep.

Report: American Express seeking $3.5 billion as part of government bailout program

It seems that they will be changing the poem on the plaque that graces The Statue of Liberty

Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled businesses yearning bailouts for free,
The wretched CEO's of your teeming shore.
Send these, the greedy, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the Fed's door.

Hydration

John 7:37
Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.

I have a problem. That problem is I do not drink enough water throughout the day. I want to very much, but when I am thirsty I seem to reach for something like a soda. I start out with the best of intentions, but for some reason I will not satiate my body's true need.

It amazes me how closely our physical life can mirror our spiritual life. I was talking to Chris last night after we laid down in bed. These are some of my favorite talks because they end up being so open and honest. I was sharing how I start off my week really clinging to the Father and wanting to walk so close, so intently beside him. I long to display Jesus to a dying world. As the week goes on I consistenly neglect the hydration my spirit so desperately needs. I was deeply convicted yesterday when I realized I spent more time reading news and other worthless information during my downtime at work, than quenching my spirit's thirst with God's Word. How can I reach anyone when my eyes are not fixed on the One who gives life?

I am thirsty... Jesus I am coming to You.

Candy and Miniatures

I was hoping I could write some more in depth blogs with my dowtime at work. Instead, here I am writing about my new obsession with candy. Yes that's right, I have turned into a little five year old. The month of October brought a plethora of candy at work, and I have sadly become addicted. Even now when I am plagued with a headache obviously induced by my sugar overload, I find myself reaching for another mini twix bar. When will the madness stop!!!????

Now to jump the opposite end of the spectrum, I wanted to talk about miniatures and movies. I watched a few of the old superman movies for the first time recently thanks to Chris. I couldn't help but take notice of the abundance of miniatures used in these old films to simulate the effects of flying. It seems a little silly to watch now, but by the end of the movie I realized half of the credit were dedicated to those special guys who devoted all of their time to the miniatures. Now that is not something you see much anymore. Was there ever an academy award that went to the best miniatures in a movie? I just wanted to give a shout out to all of those miniature builders from King Kong and Godzilla all the way to Superman. I'm not sure if there's much work in that field as far as movies go, but I sure hope you've all adapted accordingly.

Now I need to stop daydreaming about candy and miniatures and get back to work. Of course my husband just sent me a picture of the coolest Star Wars toaster in the world, how will I ever get anything done?!

Fort Worth Botanical Gardens

A good majority of our outings this year have been to the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens. What better weekend outing than the chance to get outside and enjoy beautiful weather in a serene setting. The best part is the price. There is a nominal fee for the Japanese Garden portion, and of course we always bring money to buy food for the koi fish. This was a very special visit because is was Micah's first trip. At least the first trip he was not chilling in my uterus. He is just getting to that stage where he is becoming very aware of his surroundings. He was extremely calm and peaceful as his little eyes soaked in the surroundings. He smiled and cooed a lot, which melts the heart at any time. Kaylie enjoyed herself as always. She woke up early just to remind me today was the day we were going to feed the fish and turtles.
The one thing that always gets me about the gardens is all of the "photographers." Everyone gets too engrossed in their own projects that it literally start looking like a group of photographers taking pictures of another group of photographers. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the art form. I love taking pictures when we are there. It's just something about the weekend when I see a million flashes going off around me, and we have to be careful where we walk in case we ruin a picture. Sometimes it is just nice to enjoy the surroundings without running into a tripod. Of course I did take some pictures of my own, but I try not to take it too seriously on a day like today.
I leave you with a classic picture for the day. We just happened to catch this as we were coming around the pond. The bird dove into the water and grabbed a fish and swallowed it whole. Poor Kaylie was briefly traumatized. I guess we all have to learn about the circle of life sometime!

Hello World, Welcome to My Home

I have heard many good things about blogspot. My husband encouraged me to move over here because he does not have a myspace account and it is easier for him to read. I also like the fact that I can post blogs at work and not spend too much time working on them when I am home with the family. I have seen so many clever blogs already. I aspire to be a better writer, but it is always humbling to read some of the more witty writings of others. I will try to keep things as interesting as possible, but really this is just a little slice of my world, or my corner if you will. I write to simply relate in the many simple experiences that we all share upon this planet. If anything I write is cause for inspiration or further contemplation on an issue, then that is icing on my cake! So welcome to my life. I look forward to us getting to know one another.
